What is Neuropathy?
Neuropathy is a result of damage to the nerves. It causes weakness, pain, numbness, tingling, and the most debilitating balance problems. The damage is caused mainly by a lack of blood flow to the nerves in the hands and feet. This causes the nerves to begin to degenerate due to lack of nutrient flow. There are several different kinds of peripheral neuropathies that are created by a variety of causes. there are also a variety of presentations, most commonly numbness, tingling, or burning in the feet and/or hands. It is also not uncommon for diabetics to develop diabetic nerve pain or diabetic neuropathy, which is a result of prolonged levels of elevated blood glucose. Peripheral neuropathies are common, especially among people over the age of 55. There are two main classifications of neuropathies and they are rated by the problems they cause or the root of the damage to the body.Mononeuropathy
Mononeuropathy is defined as damage to a single peripheral nerve. This could be caused by a physical injury, physical trauma, long periods of being sedentary, or continuous repetitive motions, such as working on an assembly line. Numbness in the hands, difficulty lifting your feet, or pain and tingling in the arms are all potential symptoms.Polyneuropathy
Polyneuropathy is the most common type of peripheral neuropathy. Polyneuropathy occurs when multiple peripheral nerves throughout the body are not functioning properly. Polyneuropathy can result from a number of events, such as exposure to toxins, alcohol abuse, poor nutrition, complications from cancer or kidney failure, or complications related to diabetes. Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common forms of polyneuropathy. One of the biggest issues in these cases if uncontrolled blood sugar levels.“Today was my 7th visit.
